Up-and-coming artist Phélan starts the new year with the release of his very first single of 2021, "The Worst Thing", released today January 1st, 2021.
Born in Baton Rouge and raised in Dallas, Texas, the young artist's musical style is rooted in Southern “twang”. "I've been at this for a while. Writing and producing for years for other artists like Suede Royale (Maybach Music), Tedashii (Reach Records), Trina (Slip n Slide), and Rick Ross (Def Jam), and I am happy to now be releasing my own work", said Phélan about his latest work.
The Worst Thing is the typical drunken text that turns into an all-out beg-fest, laden with harmonies, off-the-cuff key changes, and ends literally on a high note. With abandon for washed-out R and B sounds, Phélan exhibits a vocal equivalent to a quivering drawl. In some stanzas, it even oozes as an illustrious diphthong that begs listeners to open their hearts and bleed their emotions. “I feel that Rand B is supposed to make you feel something. Be it pain, joy, or frustration, but never apathy,” added Phélan.
