Tell us about Stealth, Who is this amazing artist?
Stealth is an Italian metal band founded in 1997 by Ivan, Daniele, and Lorenzo with the add of the new drummer Michele in 2016. We released several albums, EPs and singles, and performed all over Italy and many European countries. 'The Fake New(s) World' is our new single which includes two new brand songs. It is our 13th official release and the only two songs we released since 'Fight For Your Faith'.
The main song is featured on the compilation 'Metal is Forged Here' released by Metallurg Music.
A lyric video of the song 'The Fake New(s) World' is available on the YouTube band channel.
The songs maintain the standards of the last album but with a more updated and modern sound.
What made you go into music and how long have you been in the industry?
Ivan (vocalist) and Daniele (bassist), they knew each other before forming the band. They were in the same group of friends and the whole project for the band started from there. Just after Ivan and Daniele formed the first lineup of Metal Militia in spring 1997, Lorenzo (guitars) and Roberto (drums) joined them at the beginning of the following year. This has been the lineup until summer 2000. The band changed its name to Stealth in the spring of 2000 while the original lineup was still in place. We commonly agreed to change our name because at that time we felt like we were too closely associated with Metallica and even though we were at that time performing few Metallica songs, we already released 2 EPs of our own music. So we changed into Stealth to avoid people thinking we were just a cover band. Next August we will mark our 25th anniversary.
Tell us about your latest released project. What's the background and inspiration behind it?
Our new single 'The Fake New(s) World' was inspired by the world of fake news that today has the power to distort reality with often very serious consequences. Our guitarist Lorenzo wrote the lyrics of the main song included in the single while the B-Side 'Like Father Like Son' lyrics were written by the vocalist Ivan. This second song is also connected to the single title as it refers to the particular historical moment of the pandemic and the deleterious effects of social media if badly managed.
Who did you work with on your latest release?
Apart for the drums, we entirely recorded both songs at our guitarist studio. We enjoyed it also because it was the first time we made the recording by ourselves. Then we moved to the MBRIM studios in Macerata where both songs were edited. We must say that this part of the work is what annoys us the most even if we know it is very important. You have to choose the different parts carefully and give a song a first clear idea of the sound you want to put together. After that, we sent the tracks to our good friend Simone Cicconi who has been the producer of our latest album 'Fight For Your Faith' released in 2014. This time Simone helped us only with the mixing but he definitely did a good job as always. When a song is in his hands we feel confident of a good outcome. After the mixing, it's been SES Studios that finally mastered both songs and made them up ready to be released.
What are the challenges you have faced so far as an artist?
Being an underground metal band is not easy at all. The hardest part is to manage the band itself. Once recorded a single or a whole album in your home studio you must proceed on with editing, mixing and mastering processes which may take months as we can't afford a 1000 Euros per-day studio to complete all the work in 1 month. Then, after delivering the songs to your label for distribution, you have to find a good and cheap promoter to spread the voice about your release. And then there is the 'live' part with all the problems deriving from the organization of every single gig.
What do you think of the music industry in 2022 and beyond?
Nothing positive! The underground scene has fewer and fewer artists to offer. This could mean a gap in the music industry during the next years.
How has the current pandemic affected you as an artist and as a person?
We were forced to stop playing gigs for more than 2 years. We focalized on composing some new music but we really missed live performances. Gigs are our reason to be.
Who are your favorite artists and how have they influenced your music and style?
Bands like Fear Factory, Machine Head, Metallica and Iron Maiden influenced our entire musical career. But we are constantly experimenting with something new. We are open to all kinds of music styles, both heavy metal and not. Daniele loves hard rock and discovering new prog metal bands together with Lorenzo. Michele, our drummer, is a big fan of Tool and Iced Earth. And finally me, I'm more into industrial and Nu metal in general. Also, I'd say that we constantly take inspiration from all the underground bands we play with in festivals and venues.
Are you currently working on any new music at the moment?
We are thinking to release a compilation of our best audio recordings by the 3rd of August 2022, to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary. Probably there will be 12 songs, each of them taken from the 12 audio releases of these 25 years.
How do you define success as an artist?
The maximum point of arrival of your creativity.
Outside making music what else do you enjoy doing most?
We really like spending some time together in front of a good glass of wine.
What was the first album you bought?
Black Album from Metallica.
What’s your favorite song at the moment?
There are a lot...
What other genre of music do you enjoy listening to and will be happy to explore as an artist?
From jazz to classical music we like listening to all genres of music and we constantly take inspiration from all the music we listen to.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
We can’t say now. We are already recording new material and we are preparing to play some new gigs after these 2 years of pandemic. 5 years ago we were about to play our Eastern Europe tour around this time….and it was something unimaginable for us at the time.
Our audience wanted to know. Do you have any tattoos?
Our new guitarist Marco has a couple of them.
